42 yrs. experience with a solid foundation in Pony Club & 4 yrs. as a student at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio where I took classes in dressage & jumping including college-sponsored clinics with Col. Bengt Ljundquist, Col. Michael Handler and Bert DeNemethy.
Continuing education has included riding in clinics with such noted horsemen as: Gary Duffy (hunters), Joan Harris, Nancy Lindroth and Kim Walnes (combined training), Susan Woods, Bill Woods, Charlotte Bayley, Jim Koford, MaryBeth McClean, Susie Wiedman and Linda Zang (dressage). I have been a participant in Instructor’s workshops taught by George Morris for hunters, Bill Woods and Maj. Anders Lindgrun for dressage.
I have had the great fortune to own some wonderful horses. Hanzel, my Hannoverian/TB gelding, was NCDCTA Horse of the Year in the Combined Test 2 years in a row. My Dutch Warmblood, Fair Maiden Lilliard, has been a BLM Champion and was many times the winner of the high-score award from Training through Second level dressage. My current partner, a 17.2 hand Trakehner named Reitz, has carried me in competitions from Virginia to West Palm Beach at Fourth level and Prix St. Georges.
I have worked with hundreds of students, not all of them interested in showing but, to give examples of the results that my competitive sutdents have had, while living in Erie,Pa. all of the Hunter and Hunt Seat Equitation riders who won classes at the County 4-H show were my students. All of the Hunter and Hunt Seat riders at the District show who qualified for State were my students and, of them, every one placed in every class entered at Harrisburg.
Some of my North Carolina students include a young girl who came to me as a novice rider and, within two years, qualified for and competed in the BLM Championships at the age of 14. A young lady who started riding with me as a beginner, aged 7, and went on to earn her Qualified Rider patch on one of my school horses is now successfully competing her own horse as an adult. One young man, who came to me from the hunter ring, leased a horse in my barn and won every dressage test entered and won his very first horse trials. Another young lady started riding with me as a young novice and went on to place 3rd in the BLM Championships her first time out aboard one of my horses.
If you are interested in having a quality riding instructor with a classical foundation and a broad experience of working with a variety of horses and riders come to your barn, please contact me. I will be happy to interview, to teach a sample lesson and will provide excellent references. I do prefer to teach in private or semi-private format and will come on an as-needed basis to give clinics or for regularly scheduled weekly lessons.
